We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as a Senior Housing Officer for Private Housing. This is an excellent opportunity to step into a junior management role and make a meaningful impact in improving housing conditions in our borough.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
As a Senior Housing Officer, you will work closely with our Private Housing Manager, the Head of Environmental Health, and the Strategic Lead for Environmental Health and Regulatory Services. Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the enhancement of private housing conditions within our borough, ensuring it meets the needs of our residents.
Responsibilities:
Investigate and resolve housing condition complaints and sub-standard houses of multiple occupation in line with the Housing Act 2004 and Council policies.
Provide mentorship and supervision to new staff, apprentices, and contract workers.
Initiate and oversee enforcement actions, when necessary, in accordance with Council policies.
Lead investigations into private housing conditions, offering technical advice and guidance.
Monitor compliance with housing standards and enforce regulations where needed.
Conduct property surveys and inspections, preparing schedules of work when necessary.
Implement licensing schemes and ensure compliance with housing regulations.
Lead enforcement actions, including the service of notices and court appearances.
Organize and lead landlord and tenant events, offering guidance to stakeholders.
Collaborate with other teams and agencies to deliver broader outcomes.
Inspect empty properties and provide advice on improvements, maintaining records of empty homes within our system.
Undertake various projects and initiatives to enhance service delivery.
Participate in service design and improvement activities.
Attend legal proceedings as a witness when required.
Provide exceptional customer service, supporting the Council's image and objectives.
Attend internal and external meetings and committees.
Assist in maintaining quality procedures and documentation.
Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the council.
Contribute to emergency response efforts as needed.
